The fascia board runs across the roofing trusses just below the roof line and this is where the eavestrough system is fixed in place. It is best to have this wood board encapsulated behind a protective metal barrier to ensure it remains dry and the water shed from the roof ends up in the eavestrough and drains properly. Where the roof overhangs the exterior wall of the home, this is where the soffit is located. Newly installed soffit’s have perforations which allow air to pass through them and into the attic space. When it comes to roof ventilation, a properly functioning soffit is extremely important. A perforated (open) soffit allows the cooler air below the roof level to enter into the attic space which creates a natural draft effect. This draft continually pulls cooler air into attic, between the trusses and pushes the warmer humid air through the vents at the top of the roof.
This can help prolong the life of the roof and keep your attic dry, reducing the risk of mold in the summer and ice formation on the inside of the roof deck in the winter.
